Day Experiences
Looking to have a WILD Experience and meet our Animal Ambassadors?
These experiences are 100% fun for everyone, and 100% interactive!
Take a journey through our facility led by an experienced Wildlife Educator!
Day Experiences held at our sanctuary are on an appointment basis only.
We are not open to the public for visits.
You will learn first-hand about Durham Region’s only wildlife rehabilitation and education center. Find out how the rehabilitation process works, what happens to animals that can’t be released, and most importantly learn the story of how our permanent residents came to join our Animal Ambassador Team. Scroll down and take a look below to see who you would like to learn about!
Please remember, during these tours you will not be interacting with any animals that are currently part of the rehabilitation process. You will only be engaging with our permanent residents.
Don’t forget your camera!
As Soper Creek Wildlife Rescue is not funded by the government or any other agency, we host these experiences to raise money for specific items. That means every time you book an experience, you'll be directly helping save a WILD life!

HOW ARE WE KEEPING YOU SAFE?
In a time of uncertainty, Soper Creek Wildlife Rescue is committed to making your WILD experience safe. Here is what we are doing to keep your family, our staff, and animals safe from potential exposure.
Private tours are offered:
Saturdays & Sundays at 8:45am, 10:00am, 11:15am, 1:00pm, 2:15pm, 3:30pm, 5:00pm
(each slot has a maximum of 6 people)
Despite being outdoors we do require a face mask to be worn by both guests and staff, and hand sanitizer and washrooms with running water for cleaning your hands before and after the tour is available.
These times were chosen as we do not operate our programs during these hours, therefore there are only 1 or 2 staff members on the property along with the volunteers for the rehabilitation of wildlife (in a completely separate section of the 13-acre property). This minimizes the total number of people that would be on the property and in contact with your family or group.
Tours are between 45-60 minutes, or 180 minutes, depending on which tour type is selected. Staggered time slots ensure that the groups do not overlap, with at least 15 minutes for one group to leave and another to arrive. Should a group arrive early there is a waiting area (a picnic table) which is disinfected in between groups for them to sit and wait. In this waiting area, there is a sign which outlines our policy for wearing a mask and other tour policies. We have extra masks on hand for those that forget to bring one.
Again, our facility is 100% outdoors and so are our tours. They run rain, shine, and snow. Should there be extreme weather warmings issued then we will contact participants.
Your group will travel to different enclosures to hear the stories of why these specific animals can not go back into the wild. If the animal approaches them then you are able to touch and interact with them. For smaller species such as a skunk, our wildlife educator will pick up this animal and allow the guests to interact for a moment before moving on to the next enclosure. Guests are asked to use hand sanitizer at the start of the tour and once leaving.
The pattern of the tour is in a circle shape, guests enter the tour and leave through a different area, again minimizing the chance of exposure to the other group should they be early and waiting. As these tours are 100% outdoors there aren't any surfaces that the members of the public come into contact with other than the interaction with the various animals.
We also have a portable washroom that has been rented which offers running water for handwashing. We ask that all patrons wash their hands prior to leaving the tour.
All tours are pre-booked and payment is made online at the time of booking. A full list of guests and the date and time that they are in attendance is kept on record should we ever need to contact them should a staff member become ill.
Our job is to make sure you all have an experience of a lifetime! But one that is also safe.
See you soon!
